Squatch Inc. Field Report

Kentucky Expedtion

 Sunday May 18th

Sunday morning we left our base camp and arrived at Doug's in the early afternoon.  The plan for the day was to visit a lake north of Doug's location.  We split up into 2 groups and took different paths to the lake.  We determined this lake would be of high interest to us from topographic map reading by Tim and Rob.  Before arriving at the lake Rob and myself came across this unnatural tree formation.

We then followed the small creek you see to the left of the formation in the pic above.  We found a rock overhang about 30 yds down.  It was filled with leaves and other debris.  Would be an ideal location to conceal yourself from severe weather.

Climbing out of the creek up a ravine on our way to the lake we then encountered this stick structure.

We then made our way down a hillside and into the east section of the lake.  This is the area where we found our first large footprint in the muddy soil.  The following video shows this section of the lake and information about the footprints.

We continued exploring the surrounding area for a few hours and headed back to Doug's to plan our night operations.  This consisted of climbing the hill across the road from Doug's and watching and listening for an hour or two.  Rob and Tim performed some whoops and howls.  No responses were heard.  Again we split into two groups and planned to meet up back at the lake area.  Tim and I took the westerly route to the lake.  After walking about 10 minutes we encountered some strange whistles on a ridge about 500 yds. to our west.  The following is a small clip of those recordings.

We finally met up back at the lake with Brian and Rob.  We proceeded to head east and came upon a cow pasture.  We sat and listened in the woods line approximately 50 yds from the pasture.  We were treated with quite an awkward display from the cattle.  They seemed to have been spooked by something and started all running around in circles.  A few of them branched off and came charging down the hillside at us.  This was startling to say the least especially being the dead of night.  I don't think they had a clue we were there until we threw on our lights to avoid being run over.

We made our way back to Doug's and did find a branch laying against a tree in a peculiar fashion near the entrance to another pasture.  We descended the hill and arrived back at the vehicle.  We then set-up two trail cams, one in Doug's shed and one on a tree watching the creek and facing towards the mailboxes.  We headed back to our base camp around 4:30am.
